Have you ever noticed how every time someone advertises a guild in WoW or any other online game, one of the first things they claim is that they’re "drama free"? I have yet to see ANY guild advertise themselves as having drama, even the ones who are well-known for it.
They also like to claim
-Dedicated, knowledgeable, raiding core.
-Experienced, organized leadership that is accessible and listens to its members.
-Flexible raid schedules that support people with real lives.
-Focus on enjoyment, not loot, because it’s just a game.
-Players who do their homework and bring their own consumables.
And this one is my favorite:
-A transparent, well maintained DKP and guild bank system that is fair for all members.
Well, let’s just say I waste $25 and a month of not being able to change servers to join them, only to find:
-Players don’t do their own research or bring their own stuff
-They wipe constantly, when they actually manage to form a raid.
-Raids are often cancelled due to lack of attendance.
-Officers play favorites and won’t listen to "lesser" members.
-People get mad over loot and/or not killing the boss.
-The schedules suck @$$!!!
-The DKP/bank isn’t well maintained OR fair.
It’s not like there’s someone who will be held responsible if their claims are false. It’s not like they have to give you free stuff for your wasted time transferring to their server, yet they have this huge list of expectations for potential applicants. Half the time I get disgusted and quit reading halfway through.
IMO, The point where their logic fails is that I don’t need a guild. Guilds need me, because I really am that good. I want some guarantees. I want to be able to hold someone’s account hostage until I get at least 3 pieces of loot for wasting days of my life on their stupid server.

That sucks...
The grass is never greener on the other side. Just a different shade of brown.
Do your research when you decide to make your next guild move. First place to hit usually is the realm forum. There you will see a majority of the drama going on. It'll also contain progression lists that should help you out. Also I would suggest checking each guild out on WowJutsu ( http://www.wowjutsu.com ). While the rankings might not be the end-all of your decision process, it's a start at least.

I kinda laugh "u-r-dumb-style" at those guild recruitments that state:
"AIMING TO LEVEL, PVP, AND RAID".....because there's what else to do in the game??? Good thing you mentioned all of the above or I'd have thought your guild was all about standing in an unused Inn bedroom looking at each other's naked bodies for 5 hours a day 7 days a week.

You know there is at least one guild that's all about fishing.

top tip,
The best guilds (in any game) don't spam for members outside AH.
The vast majority of guilds in WoW are transitory, and very few last the distance.
Look for a guild thats over 1-2 years old, thats veteran status in WoW, and more likely to be a bit more stable and mature.

I agree with that completely. I'm just having a hard time finding a good one.
I was in a guild that started in November of '04. I was with them until december of '07. I left because of personal issues with the raid leader, who was also my roommate.
We did well for a guild of casual players with jobs and kids, many of whom were of the opinion that if they "just wanted to see" the content, that they were somehow exempt from any responsibility to bring their own consumables or learn the content.
The guild still exists, but practically everyone who had any desire to actually, you know, play the game for real, has moved on. Joining that guild now would be a mistake. The only ones who get to raid are in a clique and ignore outsiders.

The one I'm in currently has just started doing T6 content. We're 4/5 in Mt. Hyjal and 1/9 in BT (we just started BT last weekend). Supremus is next on the list and hope to progress further as well.
I've noticed that with the expansion coming, not everyone is concerned with spending the time/money to raid as it exists right now. Why spend tons of gold on mats for consumables when the gear gotten will be lost in the matter of 3 days within the expansion? That's the biggest issue I see us facing right now.
