If it is a blatant wow clone like I think it is, then it will only be good to grief jedi roleplayers with Star Trek references.

Bioware is making it so the graphics should be pretty good, although I can't think of any mmorpgs that they have done before, so I think this is their first one, which means lack of content and expansions coming in slow could be a real possibility.
Although if they Jedi and Sith are giving the correct power in relation to "normal" characters, the game will become nothing more than a "Jedi vs Sith" PVP only game.

That's the problem with making a Star Wars MMO. How do you balance Jedi/Sith with a fucking smuggler?
This game will be a trainwreck; they'd be better off letting no one be jedis, have them be the uber mobs.

I agree, I think the original creation of SWG, before the CU patch did the Jedi the best. Jedi were hunted like rabid dogs and very very rare. A player could actually play one, but you had to unlock a special character slot to do so and unlocking that slot was a pain in the ass and took a long time. Only then could you begin to play a jedi and you damn sure hid the fact that you were one, because if your low level wannabe jedi died, boom you have to start friggn over form scratch!
Before the "CU" patch ruined the game and drove everyone off, you almost never saw a Jedi if you were lucky enough to ever see one at all. But if you did see one in action they were amazing

I'd take anything different in an MMO right now, the industry is in such a rut and is so devoid of any creativity or originality.
I'd love it if they made the class incredibly rare to play. Or giving everyone one jedi character and having permadeath. Or just randomly assigning accounts the ability to be a jedi/sith.
Instead it'll be "Level 23 fully Mandalorian geared Jedi looking for raid on Naboo"

The MMOs we "grew up" playing are archaic now. They have to cater to a younger and basically functionally illiterate crowd with no attention span or patience.

LOL many of you would consider the rpgs I played ancient, I got hooked into dungeons and dragons in 1978, then moved on to AD&D when it was published. Even met Gary Gygax at one of the GenCon south conventions.

Thats what I started with and what I said applies even more to that. Functionally illiterate and no attention span do not mix well with pen and paper RPGs. You actually needed an imagination to play those.

So true, I remember playing army as a little kid, all it took was an old stick for your gun. A secret cache of pine cones you squirreled away when none of your friends were around became your hand grenades and spending time arguing who shot who first
My grandfather made us all wooden rifles out of some scrap lumber he had laying around and we thought we were in hog heaven!

oh, where do i start.....
ultima online is the game that got me into this mmo thing,
nothing have toped that yet, everquest was pretty close.
imo swg was a rather good game at the begining, i haven't forgotten
all those fucking hours it took to iron out a master weponsmith. but when
i got there, i really enjoyed it, i was nr 2 on my server and i was "uber"
rare, thats why i set my mind on getting there first.
its ok imo, it should be timeconsuming and difficult to get to the top,
some 3 months later tatooine was crowded w master weponsmiths.
then sony decided to change the schematics so you had to scan
the entire fucking universe for the right minerals, to crank out good wepons. timeconsuming changed to impossible, or at least close to, for a "casual" player like me. i had my own fucking guild hall, no wait, 2 actually, and so much credits i could'nt spend them all on a week,
it didn't matter, i quit. it was fun for as long as it lasted, and
the beta testing was good times too.
i didn't take the time to even try getting to jedi
buttom line is that i'm going to give this a go

If I remember correctly, everyone in SWTOR is either a jedi or a sith, which is the equivalent of being horde or alliance. Within that, you have your class and skill variations that make the players different.
So, yeah, you were right. Jedi vs Sith PvP MMO.
As far as SWG goes, the numbers don't lie. They lost nearly all of their paying customers when they did the combat "upgrades" and were too stubborn to revert the changes. They know they were wrong, but Satan will be riding a dog sled to work before they admit it.

The last I heard, the two factions aren't going to be able to communicate with each other, basically making this a giant fucking WoW clone.
Why do MMO makers go out of their way to prevent me from giving them my money?

I dunno, I think they wanted another crack at a Star Wars universe but realized the imbalance of having any class other than Jedi along with Jedi.
It's not a terrible idea, even if they probably all play WoW when they're not working on this game. Aion doesn't look worth a damn at least.
